In the previous two posts, we covered strategies for organisation, time management, and efficiency as a parent juggling entrepreneurship. But with so much on your plate, burnout is a real danger. Wow, I will be writing a whole bund on that in this blog! That's why it's absolutely essential to integrate self-care into your routine.
Parentpreneurs often feel guilty taking personal time. But you simply can't pour from an empty cup. Your phone won't work if it's out of battery.
Making self-care a priority benefits your business, family, and own well-being.
Here are some tips:
Move Your Body
Exercise reduces stress and boosts energy and focus. Try to work movement into your day - even a short burst of activity helps. Go for a walk during lunch or do squats while on a call or making a cup of tea. Squat as you load the washing machine. Get creative!
Eat Nutritious Foods
A balanced, protein-rich diet gives you lasting energy. Meal prep on weekends, keep healthy snacks on hand and stay hydrated. Proper nutrition is key for both mental and physical health.
Unplug Regularly
Set aside specific device-free times each day or take one full tech-free day per week. Unplugging allows you to fully recharge and be present, I know this is hard, I do.
Practice Gratitude
Start a gratitude journal or take time before bed to reflect on positive moments. This lifts your mood and makes struggles seem smaller. I love Gratitude journaling, I love doing it in the morning to make me lookout for more things to be grateful for throughout the day ahead.
Connect with Community
Find social support from other parent entrepreneurs who understand your experience. Join a Facebook group, forum, or local meetup.
Ask for Help
Don't be afraid to request assistance from your spouse, family, or friends or even hire a sitter or cleaner. Everyone needs support.
Do What Fuels You
Make time for hobbies that spark joy like gardening, reading, hiking, painting, or listening to music. Feed your soul.
Prioritise Sleep
Lack of sleep intensifies stress. Try to get 7-9 hours per night. Maintain a consistent bedtime routine to tell your body it's time to rest.
