Making Space for Creativity as a Busy Parentpreneur

Making Space for Creativity as a Busy Parentpreneur

The daily juggle of being a business owner, a partner, a parent and all of the other hats we wear, often leaves little time for creativity.

Carving out space for your imagination is crucial. Creativity renews you, relieves stress, and generates new ideas to help you thrive in business and in life.

Here are a few tips to help you take time for creativity...

  • Keep a notebook with you and jot down ideas as they come. Capture creative sparks, I do this both on in Evernote and in a paper notepad.
  • Wake up before the family to journal, meditate, or visualise. Use the quiet morning time to spark ideas.
  • Take the long route on errands and let your mind wander while travelling alone.
  • Turn mundane tasks like folding laundry into brainstorming time. Think through ideas. I often talk out loud to myself and then record it on my iPhone notes to later refer back to and brainstorm further.
  • When showering, don’t rush - relax and let creative thoughts flow.
  • Doodle or mind map when you’re on long phone calls. Draw out ideas.
  • Replace screen time with reading, writing, or crafting before bed. Calm your mind.
  • Take solo nature walks to refresh. Observe surroundings for inspiration. I love being by the sea or at least by water when doing this.
  • Allow older children independent playtime so you can pursue creative projects.
  • Schedule time on your calendar for creative thinking like a normal work task.

Protecting your imagination is key, even if you start small. The creative insights that emerge will give you fresh energy and new momentum. Don’t let the busy pace of parenthood and business quash it.
